HSBC ISAs Explained: Fixed Rate and Loyalty Cash ISAs

HSBC UK lists a Fixed Rate Cash ISA, a Loyalty Cash ISA and a stocks and shares ISA on its ISA page, and each needs an HSBC current account. The fixed one locks your money in for up to 13 months, while the Loyalty one gives instant access. We quote no interest rates, since HSBC can change them.

Tax year 2026/27. Last reviewed 27 October 2026.

The terms below come from HSBC’s own pages and its Cash ISA terms and conditions (effective from 6 July 2026). We read them on 27 October 2026. HSBC can change them, so check the linked page before you apply.

Where can I find HSBC’s ISA rates?

HSBC publishes them on its savings interest rates page, with an effective date beside each one. When we read it, the Fixed Rate Cash ISA table was dated 9 October 2026 and the Loyalty Cash ISA tables were dated 14 November 2025. Comparison sites and older articles can show figures from before either date, so check the date first.

The Loyalty Cash ISA lists its rates by type of current account, with one line for HSBC Premier customers and another for other current accounts. A fixed rate stays put, because HSBC’s fixed rate page says “the rate will remain fixed for the duration of the fixed rate period”. The Loyalty rate is variable, so it can move.

How does the HSBC Loyalty Cash ISA work?

You can open it with £1. The Loyalty Cash ISA page says the rate is variable, interest is worked out daily and paid in monthly, and that HSBC might review the rate if the Bank of England base rate changes. You can make as many fee-free withdrawals as you like.

HSBC also says the account “isn’t a flexible cash ISA”, so money you take out does not free up allowance. If you have paid in the full £20,000 for the tax year, you wait until the next tax year to pay in more. The GOV.UK ISA guide explains that in a flexible ISA you can take cash out and put it back in the same tax year without using more of that year’s allowance.

The name suggests a reward for regular saving, and HSBC’s page says “be rewarded for your loyalty”. Neither that page nor the Cash ISA terms describe a rule that ties the rate to how often you pay in. If an older article says a higher rate lasts for a set period after each deposit, ask HSBC to confirm it before you rely on it.

How does the HSBC Fixed Rate Cash ISA work?

The term is a 30-day deposit window plus 12 months, which the fixed rate page describes as fixing the rate for up to 13 months. You need at least £500 within the first 30 days. If you transfer from another provider, HSBC must receive the funds within the first 70 days. Interest is calculated daily and credited at the end of the term.

You cannot take out part of the money. HSBC says any withdrawal must be in full and closes the account. After the 30-day cancellation period an early closure fee can apply. HSBC says the fee is “the lower of” the interest earned or “a maximum of 90 days’ interest”, and that closing before day 90 “could end up with no interest paid”.

At the end of the term HSBC converts the account into a Loyalty Cash ISA on the next day, and you can then withdraw without an early closure fee. HSBC says that if you convert earlier, after the cancellation period, only payments made during the current tax year are treated as paid into the Loyalty Cash ISA.

How many HSBC cash ISAs can I pay into in a year?

GOV.UK says you can pay into more than one ISA of the same type in a tax year, as long as the total stays within £20,000. HSBC applies its own limit: its pages say you can subscribe to only one type of cash ISA and one type of stocks and shares ISA in the same tax year across HSBC and first direct. You cannot pay into both HSBC cash ISAs in the same year, but you can still use a cash ISA from another provider.

How do I transfer an ISA to HSBC?

GOV.UK says to ask the new provider for a transfer form and not to withdraw the money yourself, because cash you take out cannot go back in tax-free. Transfers between cash ISAs should take no longer than 15 working days. HSBC’s transfer page says to open the new ISA first. Its Cash ISA terms let you transfer all or part of previous years’ savings, but only all of the money paid in during the current tax year.

What about the HSBC stocks and shares ISA?

HSBC’s stocks and shares ISA page says you can start from £50 and choose one of five ready-made portfolios or your own investments. HSBC says fees apply and you could get back less than you invest. The FSCS can pay up to £85,000 per person, per firm if an authorised firm fails, but it does not cover poor investment performance. Our guide to NatWest ISAs covers the equivalent products at another high street bank.

What changes for HSBC cash ISA savers on 6 April 2027?

The most you can pay into cash ISAs in a year becomes £12,000 if you are 64 or under at the end of the tax year, and stays £20,000 if you are 65 or over (SI 2026/1018; GOV.UK). The overall limit stays £20,000, so the remaining £8,000 can go into a stocks and shares ISA. HSBC’s ISA pages did not mention the change when we read them, so ask HSBC how it will apply it. Our guide to using your £20,000 allowance before April 2027 explains how to plan around it.

Is my money protected?

HSBC’s cash ISA page says eligible deposits are protected up to £120,000, or £240,000 for joint accounts, across HSBC UK and sister brands such as first direct and M&S Bank. The FSCS confirms the £120,000 limit per person, per bank, building society or credit union, and says shared banking licences count as one bank.

Frequently asked questions

Does the HSBC Loyalty Cash ISA pay a bonus for regular deposits?

HSBC’s Loyalty Cash ISA page does not describe a bonus for regular deposits. It shows a variable rate that depends on your type of current account, with interest calculated daily and credited monthly, and says HSBC can change the rate. Ask HSBC before relying on any claim that deposits extend a higher rate.

What happens when my HSBC Fixed Rate Cash ISA ends?

HSBC says it converts the account into a Loyalty Cash ISA on the next day after the fixed term ends. Once the conversion is complete you can take money out without an early closure fee, and partial withdrawals are allowed. The Loyalty rate is variable, so check the rate HSBC publishes at that point.

Can I have both an HSBC Fixed Rate and a Loyalty Cash ISA?

Not for new payments in the same tax year. HSBC says you can subscribe to only one type of cash ISA across HSBC and first direct in a tax year. A cash ISA with another provider can sit beside it, as long as your total stays within the £20,000 limit for 2026/27 (GOV.UK).

Where can I see HSBC’s current ISA rates?

On HSBC’s savings interest rates page, which shows an effective date beside each rate. Check the date first, because older figures are still quoted elsewhere. This page does not list rates, so use HSBC’s own page as the source for any figure you compare.
